We are all spiritual, even those who wouldn’t describe themselves as such. It is our true heritage and who we are before & beyond our human selves. Imagine the scenario of a spirit in the spirit world, enthusiastic and enlivened at the idea of choosing a body to inhabit for its next journey on the earth plane. The open-heartedness of our soul that has no fear. We simply want to express the love that we are in human form. In we come with the brightness of a shiny twinkling star, knowing who we are, remembering our power, ready to share our love with the world. Then fairly quickly most of us forget. This is described as the river of forgetfulness, and although it may seem like a cruel trick, it’s actually to help us learn and grow and make decisions from our intuitive self in the present moment. If we remembered all our lifetimes, every act of good and evil, it would be too overwhelming for us. We would have to find a way of containing it all, so it’s understood from the spirit realms, that we will start from a clean slate at the beginning of each life.

However we do on a deeper level retain our memories, and many of us, particularly in these times of awakening, are finding it easier to activate some of them. I believe that this is due to the ascension process: the emergence of the new higher energetic frequencies of both the earth & our human bodies which are evolving – moving from carbon to crystalline. This process can be likened to a bud that has been underground for a long time, suddenly ready to burst open and show its beauty and radiance for all to see. We are ready for this change and have no choice but to go with it, although we’re at the gestation stage and have a long way to go. The veil between the worlds is thinner than it has been, so many of us are able to see, feel and know what has been hidden in the density of the old world, making our invisible senses more visible. These conversations are no longer taboo, but so much more out there in the world. We no longer need to hide our true divinity, for it is our birthright not only to know God, but to realize that we are all every one of us, an intrinsic part of God/Source/Universal Life Force, or whatever your understanding of that is. No longer is the fear based external force considered to be outside of us, or spoken about as a mighty punishing God. At least this interpretation is losing its control over us, and has influenced us as a race for far too long. We have a need to connect with our greater selves, and perhaps each incarnation brings us closer to this truth through all our different experiences.
But what does it mean to be spiritual? Some may think it’s to do with worship in a church, temple or synagogue: chanting, praying, admitting our wrong deeds, or reading the Bible, Koran or the Bhagavad-Gita. All these things can be so meaningful or not have any meaning at all. It depends on our intention. If we go to church but follow it up by being mean to someone, then what did the church service do for us? There again if a person does something with negative results, that they really don’t know is wrong but believe they are doing good, it isn’t so bad for the soul, as they are ignorant of their misdeeds or wrong doings. The intention may be good, even if the action does not have a positive effect. It depends so much where we are coming from and what our agenda is. To put it simply, are we coming from Love or Fear? It can be helpful to ask ourselves this when we are confused.
The guy who sweeps the streets who lifts others with his smile, the sweet lady in the supermarket who always asks how I am, people who took the time to ask how I was or sent a thoughtful card when I lost my beautiful cat, friends who took time out to pick me up from hospital, those who feed the birds; some who don’t really have the extra funds to do so, giving to the homeless, taking the time to visit someone who is down. These acts of kindness, some that are anonymous, are to me what being spiritual is all about. They may not believe in a higher dimension, though I’d suggest that one day they’re in for a nice surprise! Yet these heart led actions are as spiritual as it gets. Putting others needs before our own doesn’t necessarily mean we’re being walked over, or that we’re doing ourselves a disservice by letting another take our time. Sure if we never take space, or we constantly allow others to stand in our light or to take advantage of us, that’s not so great and may mean that we’re afraid to be seen or that we lack self esteem. We humans are complicated and it’s helpful to check in to our reasons for doing things. Our souls will always show us what is true & what is not. Our conscience will give us the nudge we need , and when we listen to that it feels right. When I do something for someone in need, I genuinely feel happy because the human spirit thrives on generosity.

Humans will always have an ego. As long as we have ego, we have shadow behaviour, but the ego does not have to be fuelled by negativity. When we love ourselves we want to help others. Love doesn’t have room for fear and only wants to generate more love. Service to self stifles potential and blocks the flow of anything good. Most of us have experienced both sides of the coin; that’s how we learn and surely why we are here on this planet of duality. There are a myriad of podcasts on the internet right now, specifically interviewing near death experiencers. People who never would have talked about this once, now know that they are not alone. Many of them have waited decades to even speak about what has happened to them. Each experience is unique and yet there are many parallels. Almost without fail the soul leaves the body and finds themselves filled with & surrounded by Love. They all describe this as a love that transcends anything we can know here on the earth plane, and they generally know that the realm they find themselves in is Home. Some have a choice whether to come back and some are sent back because it simply isn’t their time. Most don’t want to leave the love behind, or to go back into a body that is so limited and restricted in comparison to the vastness of their spirit body, which has a lightness, freedom & upliftment that is lacking here on the earth plane. Many see loved ones, spirit guides, angels or ascended masters, and describe being bathed in a brilliant, soft, warm Light. In the life review that follows, each must experience the effect of all their words, deeds and actions upon every person in that life, literally feeling the effects themselves as if they were that person, as we all must when it is our turn. Since linear time does not exist beyond the earth, this happens in the blink of an eye. It’s humbling and helps the soul to know the impact it has upon another. This is known as the ripple effect – the impact I have on another, and how that other then goes on to affect the next person & the next and so on…..
It really is the seemingly little things that matter that go on to create deep change – a smile, an offer to help, praise & encouragement, can and do alter the state of the person receiving the act of kindness who perhaps then feels more confident to get through the day than they might have felt. We just don’t know how a kind word that takes no time at all & costs nothing, can make such a difference, for we do not know what our fellow men and women, neighbours, shop assistants or those we pass in the street, are carrying in their hearts at any given moment. The near death experiencers and those who have out of body experiences, perhaps through deep meditation or plant medicine, are gifted with this reminder to bring back to this temporary plane that is our home for now.

Although they may come back to a painful, broken body, depending on what has physically taken place, to return with such deep knowledge and a new empathic understanding of others, is a great gift indeed. There seems to be a an activation or download that takes place for these souls in the afterlife, so that upon their return they usually have new mystical insights and psychic abilities that they didn’t have before. I see this as the body being upgraded whilst spending time in a much higher frequency. Even some sections of the science community are now understanding that everything is energy. That being true, then it goes without saying that we are giving out either good quality, high vibrational signals to others, or low vibrational ones, and of course although we none of us can live as perfection all the time, we can try to raise our awareness as much as possible, to make our small corner of the world a better place.
“Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you
indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top, then you
shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you
truly dance.”
from “The Prophet” by Kahlil Gibran
Such an eloquently and beautifully written blog on the deep matters concerning life. As a ‘near death experiencer’ I can vouch that on return to this earthly plane there was an appreciation of ‘life’ here and the desire to live it to the full. It was only much later in life I appreciated how every single thought, let alone word and action has an affect, when in commune with others. And as such it raised my consciousness that I would like to live this earthly life as the best version I can possibly be of myself as a human being. Of course there are shortfalls but it has enabled me to have what I believe to be is a much more fulfilling life, aware of the impact I have on others, and they on me.
I truly loved your blog post Nikki! It reminds me of one of the reasons why I value you so much – because you have truly expressed this sense of coming to earth as a spirit being with a special purpose, but most of all to carry divine love. I am grateful for how this integrates my understanding of Christ with other divine realities, angels and spirit guides and how it encourages me so deeply to believe that heart-led actions and real loving service on a daily basis do mater.
